Overview

The Production Planner position is responsible for overseeing the detailed production scheduling to ensure optimal use of resources across multiple production entities. The Production Planner is the primary interface with key stakeholders including Sales, Marketing, Operations, Strategic Sourcing, Materials Management, Customer Service and the Warehouse. This position will support Palermo’s Sales & Operations Planning Process (S&OP) as well as other Continuous Improvement activities related to the Planning group.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in Sales and Operations Planning process, meetings and improvement actions.
  • Create and communicate weekly detailed production schedules considering capacities, operational preferences, quality & food safety constraints, forecasted demand, lead times, material availability & customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with Operations personnel to determine progress of work reacting appropriately within established guidelines to ensure operational efficiency and customer service levels (98% fill rate).
  • Monitor changes in demand and react appropriately within established guidelines to ensure operational efficiency, customer service, and optimal inventory levels including recommending and leading schedule change protocol when warranted.
  • Communicate effectively with key stakeholders relative to production schedules and product availability.
  • Identify and drive improvements to planning processes and supporting tools & systems.
  • Support achieving metrics that drive targeted business improvements. 

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Solid Understanding of MRP, Bills of Materials (BOM’s) and production scheduling.
  • Proven record of managing multiple projects with shifting deadlines & priorities.
  • Self-directed, self-motivated, works well in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with capability of building consensus and driving issue resolution.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (Ability to influence and persuade).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables, v-lookups, formulas and query writing).

Education and Experience:

  • BS/BA in Business or Supply Chain from a 4-year accredited university (Master’s Degree Preferred).
  • 5-8 years of experience in a demand or operations planning role including system driven MPS and MRP.
  • Experience working in the food industry and/or Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG).
  • Experience driving Continuous Improvement (LEAN, Six-Sigma, etc.).

Licenses or Certifications:

  • APICS Certification in Production and Inventory Management preferred.
  • Green/Black Belt or Six Sigma certification desirable.
