Overview

The Quality Manager reports to the Chief Product and Innovation Officer and is responsible for ensuring product safety, product quality and regulatory compliance within the manufacturing facility. Primary responsibilities include:

 

  • Developing a culture of quality across the entire organization through collaborating and training to ensure all employees understand what makes a perfect pizza according to our specifications
  • Managing the day to day execution of the Quality team, regulatory compliance, food safety, and working with the plant staff to ensure product quality.
  • Ensuring all products are produced to specifications and pass the visual appearance requirements to “make every pizza perfect”

Responsibilities

  • Manage the quality function to ensure highly disciplined compliance with all product and process quality parameters and standards including formulations, specifications, approved methods, procedures and practices.

  • Obtains excellent quality results, as measured by customer complaint frequency, product evaluation scores, internal and external facility and operational audit scores, quality systems compliance, and other formal and informal feedback mechanisms, using existing methods, procedures, and systems. 
  • Responsible for all food safety and quality activity. Develops, implements, and sustains new methods and procedures to drive improvements in quality and food safety. Maintains and develops quality systems and procedures that support GFSI initiative.
  • Manages and provides leadership to the Quality department developing the skill set of the quality team. Manages departmental activity to comply with all applicable safety laws and regulations, as well as Company safety policies, procedures and standards. 
  • Collaborates cross-functional as needed with R&D, Marketing, Finance etc. and external suppliers. Represents quality in cross functional teams as needed for new product commercialization, new equipment or process improvement initiatives.
  • Keeps abreast of federal and state regulations, codes and other key constraints including changes to them, assess the potential impact on the Company. Communicates and proactively addresses the requirements of new regulations and standards. Ensures highly disciplined compliance with all regulatory and company defined food safety and sanitation standards, systems, procedures, and practices to guarantee absolute wholesomeness of our product.
  •  Spends a significant amount of their time on the plant floor (over all three shifts) collaborating with all key stakeholders. Maintains consistent communications and fosters teamwork between all departments and shifts. Develops and maintains food safety related communications and training for plant operations team members. Partners with department managers to ensure effective preventive & emergency maintenance activities. 
  • Manages all product quality evaluations and report findings. Performs root cause analysis and preventative measures as it relates to customer complaints and quality improvements initiatives. Oversees lab analysis on raw material and finished goods and interprets the results.
  • Participates in regulatory, customer and internal audits to improve quality by maintaining records and developing new processes and procedures
  • Works with plant team members to ensure a safe work environment, including participating in safety inspections, safety training, leading safety work group meetings, and developing and executing safety awareness initiatives.
  • Assures proper daily record keeping of results.
  • Stays plugged in and connected to industry groups
  • Manages the foreign matter/metal monitoring, resolution, and tracking program 

Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in food manufacturing management
  • Strong quantitative skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to think critically
  • Self-directed with the ability to work independently as well as with groups
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively plan, organize and prioritize work
  • Strong and proven leadership ability
  • Drive to achieve goals and motivate a team
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at one time

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Four-year degree in Food Science or related field or equivalent in work related experience
  • Food Safety – Experience in compliance.
  • Knowledge and experience with GFSI / HACCP / SPC 
  • 2 or more years managing FDA & USDA regulatory compliance
  • Recall management experience
  • Food Experience Required
