  • Overview

    Responsible for developing and implementing sourcing strategies for direct and/or indirect materials, goods and services that support the company’s strategic business objectives and financial expectations. These sourcing strategies must align with Palermo’s aggressive goals for cost reductions, risk mitigation and effective new product launches necessary to support a high growth business model.

    Responsibilities

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develop sourcing strategies for assigned categories to support existing business and new product launches targeted via PVI product road-map.
    • Act as subject matter expert for assigned categories and monitor market fundamentals for opportunities to leverage changing conditions.
    • Achieve year over year cost reductions on raw materials, goods and services in accordance with annual operating plan and agreed upon KPI’s.
    • Manage overall supplier relationships between Palermo’s its supply partners (including co-manufacturing) working in conjunction with other functional partners including QA, R&D, Operations and Materials Management.
    • Identify and drive continuous improvement (CI) opportunities in the areas of procurement, sourcing, NPI and other key operational processes.

    Strategic Sourcing:

    • Research, identify, develop & qualify suppliers, technologies and materials to support key stakeholders in the business especially on new products.
    • Communicate, coordinate, implement and enforce commodities strategies to insure continual alignment across functions. Solicit feedback from others.
    • Competitively bid assigned categories using RFQ process.
    • Negotiate and contract with suppliers achieving optimal commercial terms (including pricing, payment performance terms, rebates, warranty, supply agreements and/or preferred supply programs)
    • Drive cost out of assign categories by utilizing Total Cost of Ownership and/or other cost modeling methods.

    Supplier Relationship Management:

    • Lead on-going supplier management strategy, including scorecard development with relevant KPIs, quarterly business reviews, benchmarking, and market condition updates.
    • Active role in identified process/cost improvement initiatives such as vendor managed inventory, optimized replenishment process, continuous improvement efforts.
    • Escalation point to resolve issues related to material quality, price, service, and delivery that cannot be resolved by Materials Management team.
    • Responsible for the overseeing of supplier transitions with cross-functional team members tied to strategic sourcing activities and within assigned categories (including overseeing on-line qualification trials, sample testing, and distribution testing)

    Category Management:

    • Develop Annual category plan – demand analysis, industry/market analysis, supply landscape, supplier segmentation and contingency planning.
    • Continuous improvement –actively identify improvement opportunities by analyzing total cost of ownership and current business processes.
    • Identify, plan, and execute in conjunction with other functions and procurement leadership to ensure plans yield desired benefits.

    Commodity & Supply Risk Management:

    • Utilize category strategy, risk management tools while actively monitoring market and historical information to support buying decisions.
    • Leverage supplier intelligence monitor market fundamentals of supply/demand factors & technical analysis to adjust or renew material pricing to maintain integrity of procurement records and purchase price variance reporting.
    • Analyzes market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability and prepares market analysis reports.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Supply Chain from and accredited college or university. Additional certifications preferred (CPM, APICS, ISM).
    • 7-10 years of strategic souring, procurement or supply chain.
    • 3-5 years of sourcing or procurement with food/beverage or CPG firm.
    • Experience managing multiple categories including food ingredients, commodities and/or packaging is preferred.
    • Experience with ERP/MRP systems (Microsoft Platforms a plus), E-Sourcing tools, Lean Manufacturing, Kanban, VMI and BRC or GFSI programs.
