  • Overview

    Under the direction of the Mechanical Systems Supervisor the Ammonia Refrigeration/HVAC system technician will be responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, operating and maintaining ammonia refrigeration and HVAC systems. This could also include monitoring and repairing hot water systems, sprinkler systems, water treatment systems, compressed air systems, fire alarm systems etc.       


    • Operate systems safely and efficiently according to manufacturer’s specifications, PSM, local regulations or directions given.
    • Perform Preventive maintenance according to manufacturer’s specifications, PSM, CMMS, or Mechanical Systems Supervisor Directions.
    • Troubleshoot problems quickly and effectively.
    • Assist and oversee contractors as needed or directed.
    • Complete documentation for all programs as required or instructed.
    • Determine and suggest critical spare parts for mechanical systems.  
    • Generate suggestions for equipment or process improvement.
    • Train other technicians on the systems as needed.
    • Provide regular feedback.
    • Use PPE and follow Safety procedures at ALL times.


    Knowledge,Skills and Abilities:


    • Solid understanding of ammonia refrigeration and controls.
    • Sound understanding of HVAC, compressed air, sprinkler, hot water and fire alarm systems.
    • Ability to diagnose and repair common to complex HVAC, ammonia refrigeration, and mechanical system problems.   
    • Ability to perform basic calculations for pressures, flows, , 
    • Ability to read schematics, electrical, pneumatic, refrigeration, etc...
    •  Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
    • Ability to follow instructions and procedures.
    • Good computer skills, operating systems, software, drives and control components.
    • Effective oral and written communication.
    • Ability to reason with other technicians and departments.

    Education, Experience and Certifications:

    • High School diploma minimum, with an Associates Degree or cerfification in a relevant discipline preferred.
    • 6 to 8 year experience in ammonia refrigeration (ammonia a must), HVAC, hot water and sprinkler systems.
    • Experience working with computerized preventive maintenance programs.
    • RETA certification a plus.
